Hotel Corona Experience is a ‘feel-good story’ we need for our community in healing.

This physical and virtual art installation offers an immersive simulation experience, inviting the audience to “walk in the shoes” of 6 tenants during the prolonged, strict lockdown in Melbourne. This is based on real stories of renters of a particular hotel-apartment in downtown Melbourne during 2020. These residents seemingly have nothing in common, but slowly they break down their mental walls and learn to build harmonious lives on newly found common grounds.

The 6 characters represent 6 social issues in modern Australia. The audience can experience the topics and nuanced contexts in personal and real ways, as if it happened in their lives. This immersive experience will give extra depths and complexity to one’s understanding of our society, sparking curiosity for further discourse and an urge to get involved in making our society truly diverse and inclusive, as we come out of sociocultural and mental division.

The project is an invitation to all global citizens to rethink the causes of mental health using their own experience throughout the pandemic, reassess where our old assumptions and judgements have really come from, renew our trust in other members of our community, and heal and grow, together.
